Movable Walls
Acoustic movable walls that turn one large space into several rooms, and back again, in minutes

Overview
Projects One supplies, installs and services movable wall systems for offices, conference centres, training facilities, hotels, schools and multi-purpose spaces across the UK. A movable wall lets a single large room work as several smaller ones: a boardroom that opens into a town-hall space, a training suite that splits into breakout rooms, or a function room that hosts two events at once.

We specify each system around how the space will actually be used, how often it will be moved, and the level of acoustic separation you need between the rooms. Then we install it so the building achieves that performance, not just the laboratory test sheet.
Movable walls.
Movable wall systems allow a single large space to be divided into several smaller ones and reopened as required - the standard solution for training suites, conference space, function rooms and multi-purpose areas.

Solid movable walls achieve acoustic performance in the region of 37–58 dB Rw depending on the system specified, can be installed without floor guides, and can reach heights of up to 15 metres. A 30-minute fire rating can be specified where required.

Movable glass walls divide a space while retaining light and openness. Panels can be finished in a wide range of styles, and manifestation, text, logos or full designs can be applied where additional privacy is wanted.

Both types are supplied, installed, commissioned and - importantly - maintained. Movable wall systems are mechanical and they need servicing; a system that is difficult to move is usually a system that has not been adjusted for several years, not a system that needs replacing.
Types of system we install.
Solid acoustic movable walls
The standard choice where speech privacy matters. Solid movable walls achieve acoustic performance in the region of 37–58 dB Rw depending on the system specified, and can reach heights of up to 15 metres. A 30-minute fire rating can be specified where required.
Glazed movable walls
Fully or partly glazed panels divide a space while keeping it light and open. Ideal for meeting rooms and collaboration areas where visual connection matters more than complete privacy. Manifestation, integral blinds or switchable glass can be added where privacy is needed.
Manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic operation
Manual systems are moved by hand, with the seals set using a removable handle. Semi-automatic systems set the seals automatically once each panel is in position. Fully automatic systems move and seal the panels electrically at the push of a button, which suits very large or very tall walls and spaces that are reconfigured several times a day.
Acoustic performance.
A movable wall is only as good as the construction around it. The rating quoted for a system is measured in a laboratory. On site, sound also finds its way through the ceiling void above the wall, along the floor and slab, through gaps at the junctions with the walls, and via shared ventilation ductwork.

That is why we look at the whole room, not just the wall. We check that the ceiling void above the track is properly closed with an acoustic barrier, that the perimeter junctions are detailed correctly, and that the system's rating is matched to what the rooms will be used for. If the acoustic performance you need is not achievable within the building or the budget, we will tell you at the design stage, not after installation.

Frequently asked questions.
It depends on the system specified and the construction around it. Solid acoustic movable walls are typically rated between 37 and 58 dB Rw. For confidential meetings, a higher-rated system is needed, together with proper treatment of the ceiling void above. We will recommend the right specification once we understand how the rooms will be used.
Most modern systems are top-hung and need no floor track. The panels hang from a ceiling track, and retractable seals close against the floor when the wall is in position.
Yes, in most cases. The main check is whether the structure above can support the track. Where it cannot, steel support can usually be added above the ceiling. We assess this at survey stage.
Most systems are made to order, so manufacturing lead time is usually the longest part of the programme. Installation on site typically takes days, not weeks, depending on the size of the wall and the work needed above the ceiling. We will confirm both at quotation stage.
Yes. We recommend servicing at least once a year to keep the wall moving smoothly and the seals performing acoustically. Walls used daily benefit from more frequent servicing.
