Complete commercial washroom refurbishment, phased so your building keeps working facilities throughout

Projects One delivers complete commercial washroom and WC refurbishment projects across the UK

Overview

Projects One delivers complete commercial washroom and WC refurbishment projects across the UK, from a single set of facilities to every washroom in a multi-storey building. We handle the strip-out, plumbing and mechanical alterations, ventilation, electrical works, cubicles, IPS systems, sanitaryware, finishes and accessories as a single package.

Why washrooms are worth doing properly.

Washrooms are the most-used shared facility in any workplace and, in most buildings, the least invested in. They are also the space visitors judge you on. A tired washroom undoes a great deal of the impression created by a smart reception.

There is a practical argument as well as an aesthetic one. Older washrooms tend to have inadequate ventilation, failing concealed pipework, no accessible provision, poor lighting and fittings that are no longer available as spares. Those problems get worse and more expensive, and they do not improve with cleaning.

Washroom refurbishment is also one of the few projects that delivers a highly visible improvement for a comparatively contained budget and a short programme - which makes it a useful place to start if a full refurbishment cannot yet be justified.

What we deliver.

  • Strip-out of existing cubicles, sanitaryware, IPS and finishes

  • Hot and cold water services, thermostatic mixing valves and temperature control

  • Mechanical extract ventilation designed to current requirements, with humidity or PIR control

  • Electrical works: lighting, emergency lighting, hand dryers, mirror demisting, sensor taps and flushes

  • Cubicle systems: full-height, standard-height, laminate, solid grade laminate, glass and veneer

  • IPS and duct panel systems giving concealed services with maintenance access

  • Sanitaryware, brassware, urinals and cubicle furniture

  • Wall and floor finishes: tiling, hygienic wall cladding, vinyl, resin

  • Vanity units, worktops and mirrors, bespoke where required

  • Accessible WC installation to Approved Document M, including grab rails, alarm systems and correct transfer space

  • Baby change and ambulant accessible provision

  • Accessories: dispensers, sanitary disposal, dryers, shelving

  • Decoration, sealing and full clean to handover

Compliance.

Commercial washroom refurbishment is one of the more heavily regulated areas of interior work. Our specifications address:

Approved Document M

Accessible sanitary provision, including door widths, manoeuvring space, transfer space beside the WC, grab rail positions, contrast between fittings and background, and emergency assistance alarms.

Approved Document T

This Approved Document provides technical guidance on the design and layout of universal toilets, ambulant toilets and toilet cubicles requirements in Part T to the Building Regulations. Approved Document T applies to new buildings other than dwellings and buildings undergoing a material change of use.

Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992

The number of WCs and washbasins required for the number of people employed, and the standards of ventilation, lighting, cleanliness and privacy.

Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999

Backflow prevention and fittings compliance.

HSE guidance on legionella (ACOP L8)

Dead legs removed rather than capped, correct pipework sizing, and temperature control on stored and distributed water.

Building Regulations Part F and Part L

Ventilation rates and the energy performance of new services.

We take responsibility for these as part of the contract rather than leaving them as your problem.

Working around your people.

Washrooms cannot be closed indefinitely. Most projects are phased so that provision remains available throughout - refurbishing one floor at a time, or one gender's facilities while the other remains open, with temporary signage and, where necessary, temporary units. This is agreed at planning stage so nobody discovers on the Monday morning that the nearest working WC is three floors down.
